Myelofibrosis is a rare blood cancer that disrupts the body s normal production of blood cells and causes extensive scarring the formation of fibrous tissue in the bone marrow.
It belongs to a group of diseases known as myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPNs), which also includes essential thrombocythemia (ET) and polycythemia vera (PV). Myelofibrosis can occur on its own, or develop as a natural evolution of ET and PV.
