Justice Department to investigate Louisville police after Breonna Taylor shooting


Mr Garland said last week that the department had opened an investigation into policing practices in Minneapolis after George Floyd’s killing.
An organisation representing police chiefs cautioned that such investigations should be “a collaborative effort”, and said the consent decrees that sometimes followed could prove costly and burdensome.
“Our communities don’t want less cops, they want better cops, and investments must be made in terms of training, recruitment and data collection,” said Laura Cooper, executive director of the Major Cities Chiefs Association.
“Above all, involvement and buy-in from everyone in the department is a must because without it, change and modernisation won’t take root.” ....

Here's why violent crime, homicides are skyrocketing in US Democrat cities


CRIME IN DEMOCRAT CITIES IS SKYROCKETING
Sixty-three of the 66 largest police jurisdictions saw increases in at least one category of violent crimes in 2020, which include homicide, rape, robbery, and aggravated assault, according to a report produced by the Major Cities Chiefs Association.
Through the first three months of 2021, a number of major cities have indicated they are still experiencing high rates of violent crime, according to Laura Cooper, executive director of the Major Cities Chiefs Association.

Shooting incidents in Philadelphia are up 57% from last year, the station reported, citing police records. Homicides, at 201 as of Monday, were up 24%

Buckle up for an extremely busy week dotted with a flood of tech earnings, central banks galore and a the latest US GDP and CPI prints.
The Federal Reserve (Weds) and the Bank of Japan (Thurs) are both making their latest policy announcements with the former the obvious focal point for the week, even if the outcome will likely be uneventful (unlike the June meeting when the Fed is likely to hint at tapering for the first time). On top of that, there are an array of earnings releases, including 180 companies in the S&P 500. Tesla today might be one of the more headline grabbing ones but to be honest there are plenty of them. Meanwhile President Biden will give his first speech to a joint session of Congress (Weds) and finally, there are some important data releases, including the first look at Q1 GDP for the US (Thurs) and the Euro Area (Fri). ....
