James Robertson, 29, plunged a knife into the abdomen of 49-year-old Jason Coull outside Iceland in the Barnhill area of Dundee on June 19 last year. Paul Booth, 29, was giving evidence in the trial of James Robertson who denies stabbing a man after coughing on his mother-in-law at Iceland, Campfield Square Shopping Centre, Barnhill, last June. Robertson then fought with Jason Coull, 49, before leaving the scene and returning to stab him in the abdomen. However, Mr Booth, of Perth, said that his friend was falsely accused by the group and watched as Robertson was “ambushed”.

Jurors at Dundee Sheriff Court heard claims the incident was sparked after Robertson walked past 70-year-old Nancy Fyffe and her twin daughters Laura and Gemma in the Iceland store, while coughing and saying “corona”, before laughing. It was claimed a fight started between Mr Coull, Laura Fyffe’s partner, who was waiting outside, and Robertson.
