Dartmouth today announced a gift of $20 million from Eileen Chamberlain Donahoe 81 and John Donahoe 82 to enhance the representation, success, and leadership of historically underrepresented groups in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) nationally.
Their gift honors the legacy of Dartmouth alumnus E.E. Just, the African American scientific trailblazer and valedictorian of the Class of 1907, and is a key component of a $60 million investment Dartmouth is making in diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives across the institution.

by Susan Boutwell, Dartmouth Joseph Helble, a recognized leader in the field of engineering who has served Dartmouth as provost since 2018, was today named the 15th president of Lehigh University.
He begins work at the Bethlehem, Pa., university his alma mater on August 16. He will continue to serve as Dartmouth s provost through the academic year.
Dartmouth President Philip J. Hanlon 77 will soon appoint an interim provost, and over the next few weeks he will name a search committee to conduct a nationwide search for the next provost.

HANOVER Dartmouth College trustees have chosen as their next chair a graduate who arrived in Hanover as a first-generation college student who rose to become a senior partner at McKinsey & Co., the global management consultancy.
Elizabeth Cahill Lempres, who graduated from Dartmouth in 1983 and from the Thayer School of Engineering in 1984, will take over leadership of the college’s board on June 14 from Laurel Richie, who has been chair since 2017, the college announced recently.
“The board’s strategic priorities of ensuring preeminence in a rapidly changing landscape, building a more diverse and inclusive community, and increasing engagement with the graduate schools will remain core to our agenda,” Lempres said in the news release. “On a personal note, it’s a privilege to serve Dartmouth in this way.
