But Fiat Chrysler Automobiles took many by surprise when it introduced the tech-savvy Ram 1500 pickup truck in 2018 for the 2019 model year. The 1500 set new standards for ride comfort, interior quality and screen functionality in a full-size truck, which is why it was the Edmunds Top Rated Truck for 2020. But now the redesigned 2021 Ford F-150 has made its debut. It has a few tricks of its own, from an upgraded tech interface to an available onboard power generator. ....
Tested under the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s (IIHS) new standards, the 2021 Ram 1500 crew cab has scored a Top Safety Pick award. The pickup truck was rated as ‘good’ in most tests, with its front crash prevention system helping it avoid collisions at 12 and 25 mph (19-40 km/h). It also avoided hitting the pedestrian dummy or slowed down substantially to mitigate the force of impact. However, the system failed to slow down the vehicle in the evaluation that simulates an adult pedestrian walking in the travel lane in the same direction as the car. “The Ram 1500’s Top Safety Pick win affirms FCA’s longstanding commitment to robust engineering innovation as a means to serve our customers”, said the brand’s chief, Mike Koval Jr. “Such rigor helps us deliver on Ram’s unique combination of ruggedness, utility and refinement.” ....
IIHS Awards 2021 RAM 1500 Top Safety Pick The 2021 Ram 1500 crew cab pickup earns a Top Safety Pick award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety when equipped with specific headlights and optional front crash prevention. Unlike last year’s model, the 2021 Ram’s optional front crash prevention system is capable of detecting pedestrians. The system earns an advanced rating in IIHS tests. To qualify for a 2020 Top Safety Pick award, a vehicle must earn good ratings in six crashworthiness evaluations, including the driver-side small overlap front, passenger-side small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraint tests. It also needs advanced or superior ratings for both vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-pedestrian front crash prevention and must offer acceptable- or good-rated headlights on at least one trim level. ....
