Nearly 30 students will be showcased in the Lawrence school district’s annual talent show on Friday, which will be streamed virtually because of the COVID-19 pandemic. This is the fifth year for the districtwide talent show for middle and high school students, and despite having to do things differently to ensure safety, the show will go on. Auditions for the show took place through a virtual process. Selected students then participated in a video-recording session on the Lied Center stage “in a safe and socially distant manner,” according to the Lied Center. All of the acts will then be featured in a virtual event at 7 p.m. Friday. ....

Faler, a fourth grade teacher, has taught at the school for 10 years. A Lawrence teacher who is known for making education fun for her students has been recognized for her commitment to the profession. The Lawrence Schools Foundation recently named Baileigh Faler, a fourth grade teacher at Broken Arrow Elementary School, the winner of the 2020 Dedication to Education Award, the foundation announced in a news release. Faler was selected for the award after her peers and parents wrote letters to the foundation explaining why they thought she was deserving. One individual with the school district said Faler deserved the award because of her approach to teaching, according to the news release. ....
