Norwell beats Angola 55-48 to advance to regional final VICTORIA JACOBSEN | The Journal Gazette Norwell girls basketball beat Angola 55-48 in the Bellmont regional semifinal on Saturday morning to advance to the regional final for a second year in a row. Angola ends its season with a 19-6 record and remains in search of its first regional title. The teams were tied 10 after the first quarter and the Hornets actually outscored Norwell 23-16 in the final period, but Norwell got enough separation during the second and third quarters, outscoring Angola 29-15 during that stretch. The first few minutes of the second half were particularly key for the Knights as they came out of halftime with a 26-18 lead and sophomore Skyla Tomasek and senior Kaylee Fuelling immediately hit back-to-back shots to stretch that advantage to 29-18. The lead would grow to 15 points and remain there for much of the third quarter. ....
High Schools JOURNAL GAZETTE After splitting two matchups prior to the postseason, Garrett and Angola will meet for the third time tonight in Garrett with a sectional championship on the line. The Railroaders, ranked third in Class 3A, knocked off Woodlan in the first semifinal Friday at Garrett, 50-28, with the No. 13 Hornets following up by defeating Bishop Dwenger in the nightcap, 53-37. Garrett (20-2) finished the regular season unbeaten against Northeast Corner Conference foes, though Angola (18-5) did hand the Railroaders a defeat in the NECC Tournament back on Jan. 13 – the only team to notch a win in regulation against Garrett this year. ....

CHURUBUSCO â Angolaâs girls basketball team pulled out a 40-point win over host Churubusco in the first game of a varsity doubleheader on Friday, 67-27. The teams played a competitive first quarter, with the Eagles only having a seven-point, 17-10 deficit by the end of the stanza after 3-pointers by Audrey Huelsenbeck and Jorja DeBolt and buckets from Mariah Hosted and Brielle Shearer. Angolaâs Hanna Knoll and Lauren Leach set the tone for the Hornets, scoring six and seven points, respectively, in the first quarter. Angolaâs defense took over in the second quarter, only allowing three Churubusco points while the offense put up 17 points, including 11 from Knoll. ....
