The 2020-2021 school year was anything but normal. Thanks to the coronavirus pandemic, the sports schedules were changed, seasons were shortened, and athletics were disrupted. HighSchoolOT Honors presented by Crabtree aims to recognize all that is good in high school sports though. On Thursday evening, winners of 37 different awards were named 36 of them voted on by the public, and a Lifetime Achievement Award winner selected by the HighSchoolOT staff. Public nominations were accepted throughout the school year. At the end of the year, the HighSchoolOT staff narrowed the nominees down to five finalists in each category. Then, over the course of a few weeks, the public was allowed to vote for the winners. ....

She s delayed plans to enrol at Cambrian College in the fall to January 2022. (Submitted by Mandy Francis) Mandy Francis was very motivated and excited when she signed up to take classes last fall at the N Swakamok Native Alternative School in Sudbury, Ont., to earn her high school diploma. The 28-year-old hoped to finish her math and English courses by June, with a plan to enrol at Cambrian College in September but her goals have been sidetracked because of the pandemic. ....

Down two goals and with nothing much going in the way of scoring opportunities, Pinecrest seemed 12 minutes away from the end of its season. Four goals later, five if you count the one Hoggard scored, the Patriots stunned the Vikings and everyone else at the John Williams Athletic Complex to win the 4A East regional title by a 4-3 score and advance to Saturday s N.C. High School Athletic Association 4A state championship. ....
