McLaren Port Huron hospital lifting COVID-19 visitation restrictions View Comments McLaren Port Huron is loosening visiting restrictions starting today in response to falling COVID-19 rates in the community and increasing rates of vaccinations among staff and residents. Most visitation restrictions will be lifted. New guidelines include:  Visitation hours are from noon to 6 p.m. No visitors are allowed for patients with pending or positive COVID-19 tests, including in the Emergency Room. Visitors must be over age 18. Visitors should remain with the patient in their room, unless asked otherwise by the clinical team. All visitors will be screened when entering the hospital to verify they do not have signs or symptoms of COVID-19.

View Comments McLaren Port Huron hospital will be taking questions about the COVID-19 vaccine via a free virtual program Tuesday. “We recognize that people may be hesitant to get the vaccine while they have unanswered questions,” Dr. John Brooks, the hospital’s chief medical officer and infection disease specialist, said in a statement Friday. “Vaccination is so important to our recovery from this pandemic that we want to make sure everyone in the community has access to accurate and reliable information about the COVID-19 vaccine.” Registration is required through McLaren Port Huron’s Eventbrite, and questions must be submitted ahead of time to mphoutreach@mclaren.org.

McLaren Port Huron cited for alleged COVID-19 workplace violations

McLaren Port Huron is facing several workplace-related COVID-19 violations from the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration. The state agency reported Friday the hospital has been fined a total of $6,300 for allegedly not conducting a daily self-screening protocol for employees working on site, as well as not keeping employees 6 feet apart on McLaren premises and not requiring face coverings. According to a news release, those violations of state safety requirements to combat the coronavirus were being treated as serious. A separate “other-than-serious” citation, which prompted no financial penalty, was issued for not creating a policy prohibiting in-person work for employees and not maintaining a record of screening protocols for each employee or visitor entering the workplace.
