Trump to headline rally in Dalton on Jan. 4, will be first visit to the city by a sitting president in 28 years

President Donald Trumpâs appearance in Dalton next Monday will mark the first time a sitting president will have visited Dalton since President George H.W. Bush toured a Shaw Industries facility and held a rally at the airport while campaigning for reelection in August 1992.
Dalton resident Margie Witt, who said she likes Trump, said sheâs thinking about going to the rally.
âYou donât get a chance to hear the president speak in person every day,â she said.
Dalton resident Jack Williams, who is a Trump supporter, said he expects a big crowd.
âHeâs very popular in this area,â Williams said of the president. ....

More than just the two U.S. Senate runoff elections will be on the ballot in the Jan. 5 election for voters in north Georgia.
In a District 4 runoff for public service commissioner, Republican incumbent Lauren Bubba McDonald Jr. faces Democratic challenger Daniel Blackman. The Georgia Public Service Commission oversees utility rates in the state. District 4 includes more than three dozen counties in north Georgia.
McDonald was appointed to the GPSC by former Gov. Zell Miller in 1998. He remained on the commission until 2002 and was reelected in 2008. He defeated a challenge from Blackman in 2014. ....
