AMHERST, N.Y. (WKBW) — According to the Erie County Department of Health, despite lower positivity numbers, COVID-19 is still spreading through schools.
“We re still seeing high numbers in the schools. Our numbers now are as high as they were in earlier in the fall,” said Dr. Gale Burstein, the Erie County health commissioner.
Tuesday, the county pointed out one school in particular, St. Benedict School in Amherst. Burstein said, there s been nine positive tests, recently, and the county believes the virus spread through the school. The school has offered five-day a week in-person classes since September. A new study found that financial problems can be an early sign of dementia. Some older adults had such problems years before being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease or a related condition.

The team examined medical and credit information from about 80,000 adults. The people were 65 and older, lived alone, and received healthcare through Medicare. The research team recorded late bill payments and drops in credit scores. ....

The anecdotes Lauren Nicholas was hearing were all similarly alarming: People with dementia were experiencing “catastrophic financial events” — often before they or their loves ones knew there was anything wrong with them.
“Once you miss a bunch of payments, the bank owns your house or you can’t get credit anymore, so I think we were kind of concerned about why this is able to happen,” said Nicholas, a health economist and associate professor at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.
Deteriorating financial capabilities have long been considered one of the earliest signs of cognitive decline, but Nicholas noted that experts still had “relatively limited understanding of how frequent it is and when it’s happening.” ....
