Covid-19 forced Walsh to spend all of 2020 at home in Christchurch, but has decided it s time to head off and get some much needed international competition. The Olympic bronze medalists last overseas competition was at the 2019 Doha World Championships, 20 months ago. One of the things last year taught me was how much I love competing. I love competing against the top guys in the world, it excites me, motivates me and drives me. The 29 year old says if he s to have any chance at the rescheduled Tokyo Olympics he needs to be out there competing. ....

The ex-Bethlehem College student broke the University of Washington collegiate record in the 1500 meter race in February, running the race in a time of 3:34 seconds, qualifying him for the Tokyo Olympics. Fifteen athletes have been conditionally named in the athletics team for the Tokyo Olympic Games, announced yesterday at the AUT Millennium track by the New Zealand Olympic Committee - NZOC. The team is made up of an exciting mix of experienced campaigners and emerging talent, with Olympic medallists Dame Valerie Adams, Tom Walsh and Nick Willis joined by the likes of Connor Bell, Maddison-Lee Wesche, and Sam Tanner – all three of whom are aged 21 or under. ....
