Woodgate guides Cherries to topsy-turvy win over Birmingham

SUBSTITUTE Philip Billing’s late strike ensured Cherries made the perfect start to life without Jason Tindall, with a topsy-turvy win over Birmingham.
Goals from Arnaut Danjuma and Jack Wilshere put the hosts ahead, cancelling out Scott Hogan’s opener following an error from Asmir Begovic.
But defensive issues returned in the second half with Hogan heading the Blues level, before Billing popped up to clinch the 3-2 success.
The victory ended a run of four straight defeats in the league for Cherries and gave caretaker boss Jonathan Woodgate the perfect start to his temporary tenure.
Following the dismissal of Tindall as boss on Wednesday morning, Cherries went into a match without either Tindall or Eddie Howe in the dugout for the first time since October 2012, when caretaker Dennis Rofe led the side to a victory over Leyton Orient in League One. ....

JACK WILSHERE MARKED his return to Bournemouth with a brilliant first-time goal as the Cherries reached the fifth round of the FA Cup thanks to Josh King’s winner.
Crawley were briefly level in the second half thanks to Tom Nichols’ equaliser but their preparation for this tie was unsettled to say the least.
This was their first outing since a magnificent defeat of Premier League side Leeds, due to a Covid-19 outbreak at the Sky Bet League Two club. ....

Wilshere and King strike Cherries into FA Cup fifth round

JACK Wilshere’s first Cherries goal helped Jason Tindall’s men book their place in the fifth round of the FA Cup after a 2-1 victory over Crawley Town.
The midfield star netted the opener at Vitality Stadium, slotting home from the edge of the box for his first competitive goal since August 2019.
The hosts were given a scare when Tom Nichols put the Sussex side level in the second half.
But Joshua King found the decisive blow six minutes later to seal the spoils for the Dorset club.
Victory set up Cherries with a fifth-round trip to Burnley, who progressed after beating Fulham on Sunday.  ....

Jefferson Lerma sent off as Cherries fall at home to Luton

A CONTROVERSIAL early red card shown to Jefferson Lerma helped Luton Town produce a shock victory over Cherries at Vitality Stadium.
The only goal of the game came midway through the second half through midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall’s well-placed strike.
But Cherries were left aggrieved after having to play more than an hour of the contest with 10 men after Lerma was sent off for accidentally catching the face of Tom Lockyer with his arm whilst challenging for a header.
Boss Jason Tindall used all five available subs from his bench in the closing stages to try and forge a way back into the game, but one goal proved to be enough for the Hatters to take the win. ....
