The Connecticut General Assembly is now considering a major digital advertising tax proposal that would hurt consumers, business and the general economy of the state. Not only is this proposal misguided and counterproductive, but almost certainly illegal and unconstitutional. Using a sliding scale, the tax could go as high as 10 percent and would be imposed on “gross revenues” derived from digital advertising in the state. While legislators have claimed “Big Tech” is the target of the bill, the real impact will be felt among Connecticut’s small businesses and consumers. ....
