In the 608: Celebrate Grilled Cheese Day with Melted

MADISON, Wis. – Monday is National Grilled Cheese Day and we’re celebrating big in the 608.
Melted has become a go-to for sandwiches and more over the years. Owner David Rodriguez is the man behind the success of selling variations of grilled cheese sandwiches.
Rodriguez bought his food truck from another business back in 2015. The building and bus are on Atlas Avenue near Cottage Grove and Stoughton roads.
The International Catering Collective bus is open Tuesdays through Fridays. Customers can order online, or pull up to the bus parked in front of Gaylord Catering.

Elizabeth E. "Betty" Melleby

Elizabeth E. Betty Melleby, 92, of Mount Joy, passed away on Saturday, April 3, 2021 at her residence with her family by her side. Born in Magnolia, AR, she was the daughter of the late Hughey and Emma Eads. Betty was the wife of the late Harrison L. Melleby who passed away in 1980.
Betty worked various jobs before she was a sales associate at Watt & Shand Department Store. She was also a homemaker, who enjoyed cooking and entertaining. Betty also enjoyed nature, the outdoors, flowers and gardening. She took trips and tours with her traveling friends throughout the United States. Betty loved her dogs. She was a member of Chiques United Methodist Church in Mount Joy. Family was most important to Betty, she always kept up with her extended family in Arkansas, Texas and Missouri. She cherished the time with her daughters, sons-in-law, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Betty ended every phone call and family visit with I love you more . ....

Souper Bowl fundraiser goes drive-thru, benefits Habitat for Humanity

FITCHBURG, Wis. A long-running fundraiser for Habitat for Humanity of Dane County happened via drive-thru this year.
The ‘Souper Bowl’ has become a Madison tradition since 1995, and it’s the largest fundraiser for the UW-Madison student chapter of Habitat.
It’s usually held at Madison West High School, complete with the UW band, acapella groups and entertainment.
But the format of the fundraiser wasn’t the only thing that changed during the pandemic.
“The biggest thing is that we’ve been limited in how much we can volunteers, big groups, and also like our, our attendance at events for like volunteers, and customers for like events like suitable is way down this year because of the pandemic so I think it’s affected us in that way, but we’re doing the best we can with what we got,” said Souper Bowl director Matt Gochee. ....

Boys and Girls Club of Dane County hosts first of three community vaccination clinics

Appointments are available to everyone 18-years-old or older on a first come, first serve basis.
Chief Operating Officer Sarah Ghee said the purpose of the clinic is to reduce barriers and increase access to the COVID-19 vaccine.
“It’s meeting people where they are so that they have the option to go and get vaccinated close to where they live,” Ghee said.
Fitchburg Family Pharmacy Owner Thad Schumacher said going out in the community is essential for vaccinating as many people as possible.
“If we can bring the vaccine to them, one, they’ll be more able to access it, and two, it’ll be more readily available to them,” Schumacher said. ....
