For decades, Ron Ettelman of Mountville has split his time between being a working artist and running a framing business and gallery with his wife and fellow artist, Virginia. Ettelman continues to create the paintings and mixed-media works of the sort that have been exhibited in galleries throughout Lancaster County. But, at age 78 and recovering from spinal fusion surgery, Ettelman says he realized it was time to retire from the framing business after more than four decades. The building on Mountvilleâs Main Street that housed the business has been sold, Ettelman says, which means he no longer has the space to store and display many of his original works. ....

Artists Marisabel Bazan and Lisa Schulte share their lives together in Los Angeles, so a venture to the their joint studio space gets you two visits for the price of one. But while they cohabit in one extraordinary place, their practices are very different. Bazan is a muralist who got her start working as a street artist in Panama, and whose bold, expressionistic works can now be found around L.A., as well as in several international institutions. Her mural Dance of the Butterflies is a favorite spot for influencers to photograph in West Hollywood, but is also a touching point of connection for the community as it grapples with issues of mental health and metamorphosis. ....

That gave me pause. To protect patrons’ health, familiar precautions are in place at LACMA. Ticket reservations made online or by phone are necessary to keep attendance at reduced levels. Masks are mandatory, health screening (including a temperature check) and contact tracing data are required, and traffic flow directions are in place inside galleries.
