New Jersey Herald LAFAYETTE Lafayette Township School families and staff are unhappy with the demotion of the school s only psychologist to part-time status, saying the move comes at a time when mental health resources are needed more than ever. The Lafayette Board of Education voted 5-3 last week to reduce Barbara McIntyre s position from full-time to part-time effective July 1 to cut costs. Those in favor of the measure were President Josh Aikens, Vice President Lisa Carlson, and members Karen Mitchell, John Kanson and Frederick Greaver. The three who voted against the reduction were Melissa Geaney, Erin Vogler and Rebecca Brown. ....
LAFAYETTE Following a successful fall launch of Fresh Air Eats, a program originally designed to increase customers to downtown restaurants while keeping capacity limits, the Lafayette Board of Works approved the 2021 schedule Tuesday for the upcoming weekend events. Fresh Air Eats will begin in May and run through October. Held monthly, it will start on Friday evening and will run through Sunday evening. In May, the event will be held during the third and fourth weekend of the month to accommodate for Purdue s graduation, May 14 to May 16, and a statewide firefighter convention held in Lafayette from May 20-23. Other dates planned for the rest of the year include June 18-20, July 16-18, Aug. 13-15, Sept. 24-26 and Oct. 8-10. ....

The Lafayette Board of Zoning Adjustment denied an appeal from residents of a central Lafayette neighborhood to overturn zoning director Mary Sliman s decision to allow short-term rental properties within city limits. The 3-2 vote came after three hours of public comments on the matter. Garland Pennison and board chairman Chris German voted against the denial. The appeal stemmed from a complaint about a single property on Iris Lane. Gordon Schoeffler, a lawyer and neighbor, told the zoning board he and his fellow neighbors were worried about transient neighbors who came and went from the house. Other nearby residents, like Jeanne Langlinais, asked the board to overturn the decision spoke of their fear for their children s safety, especially when finding strangers standing outside near their homes early in the morning. ....
