The Incredible Discovery of the Spirit Cave Mummy
Many cultural traditions surrounding death are meant to preserve a person’s legacy. Yet few souls could ever have expected to be remembered for so long. Nor could they possibly imagine the amount of controversy and scientific inquiry they would evoke thousands of years after their death. Such is the case of the man found entombed in Spirit Cave, 13 miles east of Fallon, Nevada. The naturally preserved body was first discovered in the 1940s but then shelved until the 1990s. Today, the battle over cultural heritage wages as scientists and Native Americans vie over the dead man’s fate.
Ice fisherman lands record catch in Owyhee County reservoir KTVB Staff
An avid angler from Meridian has caught a new state record fish in Owyhee County.
The Idaho Department of Fish and Game says Jordan Rodriquez was ice fishing at Grasmere Reservoir on Dec. 12 when he landed a 2.27-pound Lahontan cutthroat trout.
State officials say that’s a new certified weight state record for that type of fish.
The previous 1.17-pound record was set by Hayleigh Urban earlier in September.
Certified weight state record fish require being weighed on a certified scale, while catch/release records are based on total length.
Rodriguez, of Meridian, caught his prize while doing some winter fishing at Grasmere Reservoir on Dec. 12.
The angler landed a very nice 20-inch Lahontan cutthroat trout, Fish and Game said. The 2.27-pound cutthroat was big enough to set a new certified weight record, passing the previous 1.17-lb record set by Hayleigh Urban earlier in September.
Lahontan cutthroat trout are originally native to the Lahontan Basin, which is located in northern Nevada, northeastern California and southeastern Oregon. The fish were recently planted in certain lakes in Idaho.
Due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, 2020 has been a big year for outdoor sports like hunting and fishing.
