As the world knows at this point, Barry Alvarez has announced that he will retire in June, stepping down from the Athletic Director position he has filled so spectacularly for the last 17 years.
To say he’s has been a transformative figure in Wisconsin athletics history is a vast understatement. He created a powerhouse football team and then went on as AD to lead Badger teams through some of their best decades ever.  He is a legend here in the state.
The story of his hiring by Donna Shalala and Pat Richter and his subsequent football success has been told many times and is widely known. What has always intrigued me more is how he made the move in 2004 from the playing field to the conference room…from being a top-ranked and talented coach to leading the entire program and navigating the increasingly complex world of college athletics. ....

MADISON, WI (WSAU) — The # 5 Wisconsin mens hockey team topped Ohio State 2-1 in overtime on Friday night at LaBahn Arena.
Dylan Holloway had two power-play goals including the game winner 42 seconds into the OT. Cole Caufield had two assists.
The Badgers take on Ohio State again this afternoon. You can hear the game on AM1390 & FM 93.9 The Game at 3:30
 
The #1 ranked Wisconsin womens hockey team was upset by #7 Minnesota-Duluth 4-2 Friday night in Duluth.
Badger goals went to Nicole LaMantia and Brette Pettet.
The Badgers had beaten the Bulldogs 17 straight times dating back to Nov of 2016.
The two teams will play again today at 2pm. Whoever wins takes home the WCHA title. ....

Badger Hockey Men Draw ND, Women Top Bemidji State

MADISON, WI (WSAU) — The Badger men’s hockey team skated to a 5-5 draw with Notre Dame.
The Badger men trailed 1-0 early before Ty Pelton-Byce closed out the first period with a power play goal to send the teams to the first intermission deadlocked at 1. Cole Caufield and Roman Ahcan each found the back of the net in the second, and Wisconsin led 3-1 after two.
Both teams would then combine for six goals in the final 20 minutes including two tallies from Linus Weissbach and Pelton-Byce to help the Badgers keep pace. Pelton-Byce’s goal came with less than 30 seconds remaining to force an overtime period. ....

Irish Downed By #5 Badgers, 4-2


MADISON, Wis. Alex Steeves and Graham Slaggert scored for the Irish but fifth-ranked Wisconsin came back to defeat Notre Dame, 4-2, on Friday night at La Bahn Arena in game one of the weekend series. 
Steeves and Slaggert each had a goal and an assist, while Landon Slaggert had a pair of assists. Linus Weissbach led the Wisconsin offense with the game winner and empty net tallies in the third. 
Dylan St. Cyr made 30 saves in the Notre Dame (10-12-1) goal, including 14 in the first period. Robbie Beydoun finished with 29 saves for Wisconsin (15-8-0).  
The Irish were 0-for-2 on the power play, while Wisconsin finished 1-for-3 as Notre Dame’s penalty kill moved to 19-for-20 on the road this season. ....
