Roddy Campbell had senior marketing positions with businesses worldwide
Roddy Campbell was an outstanding young Scottish athlete and later a highly successful businessman who held positions with a number of international companies.
He was a talented middle distance runner, the high point of whose career was winning the silver medal at the AAA’s [British] Junior Championships in the 1,500m steeplechase in 1964 at Crystal Palace, missing out narrowly on the gold medal by 1/10th of a second. In business he held prestigious positions with Adidas, the international sportswear company, including Managing Director of their UK operation, Director on the company’s main board in charge of marketing and President of Western Hemisphere marketing, with responsibility for substantial budgets. Along the way he became acquainted with some of the great and good in British sport including Sebastian Coe, Daley Thompson and Kenny Dalglish. ....

Obituary: Sir William Macpherson, judge who led the inquiry into the murder of Stephen Lawrence


 
SIR William Macpherson of Cluny, who has died aged 94, led from the front throughout his long life. In doing so – as clan chief, soldier, lawyer, judge and passionate rugby player – he exemplified his noted Jacobite ancestor, Cluny Macpherson, and it was no surprise when he was invited to become one of four patrons of the 1745 Association.
Sir William’s trademarks proved to be personal courage and independent judgement. He needed both when in 1997 the Lord Chancellor, Lord Irvine of Lairg, asked him to lead the inquiry into the racially motivated murder of Stephen Lawrence in April 1993.
The investigation took evidence for a year, yet Sir William produced his report inside an astonishing six weeks. His findings that “institutional racism” existed within the Metropolitan Police saw him subject to death threats. However Jack Straw, the Home Secretary, promised action on all 70 recommendations. ....

Jersey Reds Championship season to start in March against Saracens | Channel

Jersey Reds will begin their delayed season away to former European champions Saracens after fixtures for the 2020/21 Greene King IPA Championship campaign were confirmed.
Reds start with a bye week following London Scottish s decision to withdraw from this year s competition, before travelling to the StoneX Stadium to face Saracens on the weekend of 13 March for their first taste of competitive action in over a year.
This is followed by away games against Richmond, Bedford Blues, Doncaster Knights and Ealing Trailfinders before the prospect of a home match against Nottingham on the weekend of 24 April. ....
