Bonteheuwel s Freedom Square is now officially a provincial heritage site. The square, in the suburb s central business district (CBD), holds historic significance. It is the place where anti-apartheid freedom fighters often gathered to strategise and organise.
On Monday, Western Cape Arts and Culture MEC Anroux Marais officially unveiled the provincial heritage site plaque at Freedom Square.
Together with Heritage Western Cape and the City of Cape Town s facilitation, the socio-political significance of Freedom Square will now officially be acknowledged and promoted as a provincial heritage site. ....

Former Langa Pass Office declared provincial heritage site

The Langa Pass Office has been declared a provincial heritage site.
The site, which is now a museum, was once the office at which black people had to renew their passbook or dompas.
The declaration will allow the site protection under the National Heritage Resources Act.

The site, on erf 661, was marked as a provincial heritage site on Friday, when an official plaque was unveiled by Western Cape Cultural Affairs and Sport MEC Anroux Marais.
Undoubtedly, the Langa Pass Office and Court has high historical significance , Marais said, for its role with the dompas system. Today, the site forms part of the Langa Museum. ....
