Road work ahead sign
Tuolumne County, CA – Tuolumne Utilities District (TUD) paving work in Tuolumne County continues to impact travel.
As reported here on Monday, crews are working in several areas of the county, including Sonora, through Friday, July 2nd. TUD adds that additional paving is also scheduled at various locations in Tuolumne City and Ponderosa Hills with work continuing into next week.
The operating hours in those areas are from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., beginning Friday, July 2, and resuming on Tuesday, July 6. No specific roadways were named but traffic controls will be in place where work is being done. Motorists can expect up to ten-minute delays in those cone zones.

State Board of Forestry is moving Tuolumne County towards a “No Build” Community
The State Board of Forestry decided to move the March 15, 2021 draft of Revised State Fire Safe Regulations ahead, without revision, into a 45-day public comment period, ultimately intending to adopt them as State law. This will dictate oppressive requirements for development and construction in our county. Within high fire zones (which the majority of our county and rural California fall under), if any type of building permit is taken out, the landowner would be required to bring roads up to modern standards all the way from their property out to the next fully-conforming collector road. This would be unattainable for most folks as the costs would be astronomical. Numerous parcels would instantly be (administratively) undevelopable, and therefore instantly worthless. Aaron Rasmussen, the Tuolumne Lumber Jubilee Board President, was Thursday’s KVML “Newsmaker of the Day”.
The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4748 is in charge of the Tuolumne Lumber Jubilee. Rasmussen is the Chairman.
Last year, the Tuolumne Lumber Jubilee could not take place according to the Tuolumne County Health Department. Rasmussen was told that “mass gathering events” were not allowed in Tuolumne County due to COVID-19 restrictions. However, one of the exceptions to that rule was for organized protests. So the name of the event was changed to the ‘Tuolumne Lumber Protest’ and it was narrowed down to a one day event.
