Dubai: 2.1 million low-income people benefit from RTA drives

Initiatives include Ramadan Iftar meals distribution; education support; and distribution of Covid-19 essentials.
Social initiatives launched by Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) benefitted more than 2.1 million people both in the UAE and abroad in 2020.
Rowdah Al Mehrizi, Director of Marketing and Corporate Communication, Corporate Administrative Support Services Sector, said: “The RTA’s role in supporting the community was clearly illustrated during the Covid-19 pandemic, where about 2.01 million riders benefited from its initiatives.
“Supported by 22 volunteers from the RTA, the RTA distributed 180,000 posters about precautionary measures to all public transport means. About 10,000 face masks were provided to the Dubai Health Authority (DHA) for distribution to medical personnel.” ....

Three passengers travelling on a private bus died on the spot, when the bus’s left wheels fell into and got stuck in a pit on the side of the Thirukattupalli-Kandiyur Road near Varagur on Tuesday afternoon.
The bus was proceeding to Mannargudi from Kallanai when the wheels got stuck in the pit that had been dug to lay pipes. According to local sources, the accident occurred when the driver swerved the bus to avoid a collision with a vehicle coming in the opposite direction on the narrow carriageway. ....

There is an interruption of services on Dubai Metro’s Red Line between Emirates Towers Metro Station and Burj Khalifa/ Dubai Mall Metro Station, the Road and Transport Authority (RTA) has informed.
The authority has said that bus services will be provided for commuters to travel between the two stations during the interruption of services.

CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) - The RTA confirmed on Thursday that an additional eight RTA employees have tested positive for COVID-19, bringing the total number of employees who have had the virus to 134.
The latest employees to test positive are:
two operators from the Hayden District
one equipment engineer from the Central Bus Facility
two administrators from the Main Office Building
one track maintainer from the Rail District
one hostler from the Triskett District
one customer service representative from the Tower City Customer Service Center ....
