Missouri lawmakers to hear Tuesday testimony about state IT infrastructure overhaul

Subcommittee Chairman Rep. Doug Richey (R-Excelsior Springs) tells Missourinet that if anyone else would like to testify, they can call his office at (573) 751-2238 to be on the witness list.
Representative Richey has tremendous concerns about the state’s IT system. He wants to see a plan in place by January, for a serious overhaul of the state IT system. He says Missourians who need assistance with constituent services are frustrated, especially when they have issues involving multiple state departments and agencies. Many of them use different computer systems. ....

Another session of the Missouri Legislature has come and gone. Of the 1,559 House bills and 689 Senate bills filed this time around, 69 bills will make it to Gov. Mike Parson’s desk.
Here are some key bills left up to the governor to sign or veto:

Missouri lawmakers vote to pump up the state’s gas tax
The Missouri Legislature has passed a proposal that would boost the state’s gas tax for the first time in about 25 years. The plan would raise the user fee by 12.5 total cents over five years. It would also let most drivers choose whether they want a rebate for the amount of the increase. Another provision would increase annual fees on electric vehicles by 20% per year over a five-year ....

Tax credit for foster parents becomes law with Gov. Parson's signature


Missourians who adopt or foster children are getting some help on their future taxes.
The first concession will allow a foster parent who provides care for at least six months to deduct up $2,500 in foster care expenses. A married couple doing the same could deduct up to $5,000.
The second break will allow Missourians adopting any child to claim a tax credit of up to $10,000 for adoption-related expenses.
That tax credit is currently only available to parents adopting children with special needs who are residents or wards of residents of the state at the time of adoption.
Both breaks are set to take effect at the beginning of next year, meaning the first time parents will be able to claim them will be on the taxes they file in 2023. ....
