It’s worth one tenth of the stake-money but the
Futurity Stakes is shaping as every bit as good as the
All Star Mile and a dream lead-up to the
$5 million race.
The established weight-for-age Futurity – as opposed to the third-year running of the pop-up All Star – is shaping as a mirror image of the far richer race.
Betting markets are not identical but they feature identical names, bar for
Russian Camelot who is the $6 equal favourite for the March 13 All Star Mile but does not appear in TAB markets for the February 20 Futurity, despite the window being ajar for the star four-year-old to run.

When Zac Spain returned to scale as a Group 1-winning jockey at Caulfield on Saturday aboard Streets Of Avalon after the running of the C.F. Orr Stakes, it signified how far the 24-year-old had come.
Having grown up in Darwin, Spain moved to South Australia and first sat on a horse at the age of 15. He would learn to ride at TAFE in Adelaide and his first race ride would come two years later at Streaky Bay, some 700 kilometres west of Adelaide. ALL STAR’S WOBBLING BUT STILL ON TRACK

There were blips over the weekend but the
All Star Mile‘s headline horses remain on track for next month’s $5 million race.
Mystic Journey and
Arcadia Queen‘s campaign is back on track despite a COVID travel scare.
Another big-name All Star horse,
Russian Camelot, will trial at Werribee tomorrow before a potential Futurity Stakes clash at
Caulfield on Saturday week with All Star rivals Arcadia Queen and
Behemoth.
Weekend results in Victoria and Tasmania had a major impact on All Star betting, with
Timeform Australia handicapper Adam Blencowe says past performances indicate punters and bookmakers have it wrong in betting markets for the $500,000 Group 1 CF Orr Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield.
Cox Plate winner Sir Dragonet is the well-backed favourite for the weight-for-age race but the respected form student of racing around the world says the Chris Waller-trained Imaging has the best form going into the race.
“If I asked some bloke on the street in Ireland who is going to win a 1400-metre race between two Irish horses Sir Dragonet and Imaging, I reckon he’d mark Imaging the more likely of the two,” said Blencowe, who posts his racing thoughts on Twitter under the handle @NoverreMan.
