Vessel rescued after drifting onto rock wall in harbour

Premium Content Subscriber only A vessel lost steering and drifted onto the rock wall in Rosslyn Bay Harbour on Monday, April 26, and required assistance from Yeppoon Coast Guard. Yeppoon Coast Guard Operations Centre was contacted by the skipper of the 5.3-metre runabout, which had four persons on board, about 9am. Marine Assist Rescue, skippered by Rob Wills, provided the vessel with a very short tow back to the pontoon. Four trainees undertook their Ship Safety Skill Set that afternoon at North Keppel Island. The assessment required students to undertake a number of tasks both in and out of the water including swim tests, the use of life saving devices, and, the use of life rafts.

Dehydrated crew member flown to Rocky during 15-hour rescue

Premium Content Subscriber only A Yeppoon Rescue One crew member was flown to Rockhampton after becoming severely dehydrated due to seasickness during a 15-hour operation north of Rosslyn Bay Harbour on April 12. An 11-metre yacht with two people on board had engine failure and was anchored 0.5 nautical miles south of Strong Tide Passage at Shoalwater. The yacht was heading north but requested assistance to return to Rosslyn Bay for repairs. ROK200421CoastGuard: Yeppoon Rescue One crew member transfer to RACQ Capricorn Rescue. The crew was not confident they could sail into the strong southeast winds. Yeppoon Rescue One, with skipper Kingsley Bartle and crew, departed Rosslyn Bay Harbour at 7.30am with very rough sea conditions making it a difficult operation.

News Contributed story Premium Content Subscriber only Rough seas with strong waves made it hard for the Yeppoon Coast Guard Bravo Crew to carry out a rescue over the Easter weekend. The Coast Guard was contacted by the Queensland Ambulance Service at 8pm on Sunday, April 4, requesting assistance with the medivac of a patient with non-life-threatening injuries from Great Keppel Island. A crew was assembled but as there were waves of three metres and winds of 35 knots gusting to 40 knots, it was decided to delay the activation. The following morning QAS paramedics joined a crew on Yeppoon Rescue 1, skippered by Barry Semple, and departed Rosslyn Bay Harbour at 7.30am for GKI.
