'Walking with Herb,' filmed in Las Cruces, to premiere April 30


On a drive to El Paso from Las Cruces, NMSU film professor Ross Marks changed the radio station from a negative, ranting DJ to televangelist Joel Osteen.
He was preaching this message of hope  that trust, belief and life can be great. I thought, That s a wonderful message. That s the type of movie I should make, the director and producer said. I remembered my friend Joe Bullock had written this fabulous, faith-based novel called Walking with Herb,  about a man who is contacted by God and challenged to go on this great journey to trust and believe in God s word. ....

'Saving Faith': Short movie scheduled to film in Las Cruces

LAS CRUCES – A new short film, “Saving Faith,” is scheduled to film in Las Cruces in October, with local talent both in front of and behind the camera.
“Saving Faith” tells the story of Bill, a successful Wall Street stockbroker who attends an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting for the first time after causing the death of one person and putting a child in a coma due to his driving. The 10- to 12-minute film focuses on Bill  an atheist grappling with his demons and struggling to determine how to lead his life.  
Randy Messersmith has a 30-year acting, directing and producing as well as teaching theater and film at the high school and community college levels. He moved to the Albuquerque area in October 2019, and with not much else to do during the COVID-19 pandemic, he took a class with Southwest Scene Works. ....

Think you can make a movie in 48 hours? So far, 47 teams with 68 filmmakers from Texas, New Mexico and Mexico have registered to try to make a short film as part of the “Reimagining Borders” 48-Hour Film Challenge between Feb. 26 and Feb. 28.

Film festival's virtual transition expands film offerings, community partnerships | Article


The virtual nature of this year’s Las Cruces International Film Festival is broadening the film experience, not only by increasing the number of films and access to movie-goers around the world, but also by adding partnerships with local businesses.
