Plans for new homes in Johnstown set for approval next week Plans to build 10 new homes in the Johnstown area could be given the go ahead next week. An application submitted to Wrexham Council proposes that the dwelling are built on land off High Street, near the local primary school. The plans include the demolition of the existing buildings, which were last used for storage with associated offices, to make way for the development of 4 x 2 bedroom, 2 x 3 bedroom and 4 x 4 bedroom properties. However concerns have been raised by the local community council and councillor about water discharge and “what arrangements are in place for sewer upgrades.” ....
Plans for the scheme, on land off High Street, were received previously by Wrexham Council. The authority s planning committee will meet on April 12 to decide whether or not to grant permission. A report to the committee recommends the council enters into a section 106 agreement to secure financial contributions towards primary school provision and £10,000 towards the improvement of off-site public open space. Further recommendations advise the scheme be given the go-ahead if the obligation is completed, and refusal if it is not within six months of the committee s decision. The report explains: The development will result in the demolition of all existing buildings, which include a stone built range of former farm buildings towards the front of the site. ....
A WREXHAM woman will be celebrating a milestone birthday in lockdown. Patricia Woodhouse, of Johnstown, has looked back on her life after being born 100 years ago today in Wrexham. She said: “People have made ever such a fuss of me. I feel so grateful for everything.” The centenarian explained how she was born in 1921 at the former Travellers pub, on Bangor Road, and grew up in Wrexham with her family running the business. She said: “My parents and grandparents have always been publicans and I’ve lived in pubs all my life. Mind you, I never got a taste for beer. Occasionally I’ll enjoy a glass of Baileys but that’s it.” ....
AN OUTDOOR carol service has been praised for bringing joy this festive season. On Sunday, December 20, Member of Parliament for Clwyd South, Simon Baynes MP attended a socially-distanced, outdoor Christmas Carol Service at the Ponciau Bandstand, led by Pastor Joshua Roberts of the Grace Baptist Church of Rhosllanerchrugog. There were carols and Bible readings in both Welsh and English, along with live musical performances. Pastor Joshua Roberts said: What a joy and privilege it was to be able to come together and remember the birth of the Saviour. It was a special privilege to have Simon Baynes MP and Mayor Rob Walsh in attendance. We at Grace Baptist are thankful for their hard work in this difficult time. ....
