JetBlue joins the Roundtable on Sustainable Biomaterials

NEW YORK, NY – JetBlue Airways today announced it has joined The Roundtable on Sustainable Biomaterials (RSB). As the first US airline member, JetBlue joins 100 other like-minded organizations in creating a market and standard for sustainable biomass and bio-based products. The RSB is an independent and global multi-stakeholder coalition which works to promote the sustainability of biomaterials. JetBlue will participate in discussions relating to the aviation sector. “Biofuels are inevitable for the future of the aviation industry. We know we have to start laying the groundwork today as an investment in our future,” said Sophia Mendelsohn, head of sustainability, JetBlue. “In order to make this work, businesses globally need to join together for a low-carbon future.”

Fighting Fraud with Tech – RSB, Bioledger build up blockchain for biofuels traceability   : Biofuels Digest

The Roundtable on Sustainable Biomaterials and Bioledger are using blockchain technology to fight fraud and see how it can support traceability of biofuel and its feedstocks and overcome the vulnerabilities identified in securing the supply of sustainable renewables. The proposed solution a blockchain database that enables verifiable proof of origin, secure consignment creation, process simplification, audit efficiency, data integrity, and central governance was prototyped and trialed with project partners to process a total of 1,927,906 liters of feedstock, accurately representing real-life commercial and operational processes. In today’s Digest, how blockchain can help prevent fraud in biofuels, details on this RSB, Bioledger project which included Greenergy and other real-world biofuels players, reactions from the stakeholders, and more.

LanzaTech and SkyNRG to build Europe s first ethanol-to-SAF plant - Chemical Engineering

By Mary Page Bailey | January 13, 2021 The FLITE consortium, led by SkyNRG  B.V. (Amsterdam, the Netherlands; www.skynrg.com) and with LanzaTech (Skokie, Ill.; www.lanzatech.com) as the technology provider, will build the first-of-its-kind LanzaJet Alcohol-to-Jet-fuel (AtJ) facility. The facility will convert waste-based ethanol to sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) at a scale of over 30,000 metric tons per year (m.t./yr). The project received €20 million in grant funding from the EU H2020 program and is a major milestone on the path to a net zero emission for the aviation industry. Sustainable aviation fuel is critical to reduce emissions from the aviation sector in the coming decades. Ambitious targets are proposed as part of the European Green Deal ‘Sustainable and smart mobility’ policy and the new legislative initiative ‘EU ReFuelEU Aviation’. To meet these targets in the years to come, it is essential that we diversify feedstock and technology options for SAF produc

Flying high with aviation biofuel – Continuous SAF supply arrives at SFO and LTN airports, RSB recognized by ICAO for CORSIA : Biofuels Digest

Lots of news arrived recently in sustainable aviation fuel, but here are two stories you won’t want to miss. First, Signature Flight Support, Neste and NetJets celebrate the official launch of Sustainable Aviation Fuel at SFO and LTN airports which is now available for purchase. Second, RSB has officially been recognized by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) for the certification of CORSIA-eligible Sustainable Aviation Fuels with its new RSB CORSIA Standard. Celebrating the official launch of SAF at SFO and LTN airports Let’s start with the celebration going on at two airports this holiday season, reminiscent of Santa saving the day when all flights were cancelled due to that unexpected snowstorm that just came out of nowhere.
