May 27 Phil Aasen, a longtime truck driver for Harbor Wholesale Foods in Lacey, has been inducted into the 2021 class of the International Foodservice Distributors Association truck driver Hall of Fame, the association announced. Aasen is among 71 drivers to be inducted this year, the largest class in IFDA s history, according to a news release. These hard-working professional drivers are truly essential to our economy, national security, and way of life, said Mark Allen, president and CEO of IFDA, in a statement. ....

May 20 The state Department of Enterprise Services seeks an operator for the new childcare center under construction on the state Capitol Campus. The new childcare center, which will serve state workers, is in addition to the one on Perry Street. The new site is at Maple Park Avenue Southeast and Capitol Way South. The $10 million project is expected to be finished this year. Bids, or requests for proposals to be the operator of the center, are due June 30. The RFP can be found in Washington s Electronic Business Solution, the bid notification system. Interested parties must register in WEBS to view the RFP. ....

Jan. 8 Lacey Auto Licensing, a vehicle licensing subagency that operates inside Albertsons in Olympia, is coming home, the owner said this week. Owner Corry Cavin, who has run the business since 2012, is moving the business back to Lacey in February, she said. That s where the business got its start in the early 1980s when her father ran the subagency. The business later moved to the Olympia location just west of the Lacey border on Pacific Avenue near Fones Road, but did not change its name, she said. ....

South Puget Sound Community College has received $2.5 million from the Bruno and Evelyne Betti Foundation, the largest gift in the school’s history. The gift will go toward the college’s professional technical degree programs, such as automotive and welding, as well as health care programs in the college’s Dr. Angela Bowen Center for Health Education. The Betti gift directs $1.5 million to be used as an endowed scholarship to support professional technical students at SPSCC. The gift also directs $1 million toward developing a new nursing simulation space in the Dr. Angela Bowen Center for Health Education. ....
