May 18, 2021 General manager George Paton is reshaping the Denver Broncos front office in his image. After completing a successful free-agency and NFL draft period with personnel/scouting staff he inherited from John Elway, Paton has quickly set about hiring his key personnel lieutenants to realize his front-office vision in Denver. On Monday, Paton announced the hiring of ex-Minnesota Vikings executive Kelly Kleine as executive director of football operations/special advisor to the GM, breaking a glass ceiling in the NFL by making her the highest-ranking female scouting exec ever. On Tuesday, Paton doubled down by hiring ex-Detroit Lions scout Roman Phifer to serve as the team s senior personnel executive. ....

No Jaguar receiving tandem has approached their work, and their first four seasons together produced six 1,000-yard campaigns between them and four Jacksonville playoff berths. Both landed higher-paying extensions, but the Jags capitalized on the exclusive negotiating rights that came with signing the duo in the mid- 90s. The partnership lasted six years. Pro Bowl selection Nobody picked the Patriots to win the Super Bowl before the 2001 season, and for good reason: New England went 5-11 the year prior, used free agency to acquire a bunch of unheralded castoffs like Antowain Smith, David Patten, Roman Phifer, and Mike Vrabel, and had top receiver Terry Glenn embroiled in legal issues. Glenn was absent when Brady took over for an injured Drew Bledsoe in Week 2 and only played in four games the whole year. The Patriots weren t great in yardage categories - they ranked 19th in offense and 24th in defense - but somehow ranked sixth in both scoring categories. In the playoffs, New England benefited from the tuck rule in the divisional round and Bledsoe s relief effort in the conference title game before they took down the Greatest Show on Turf in the Super Bowl. ....
