Wayne County health officials upset at area COVID vaccine numbers

I m disheartened by where we re at, said Dr. David Jetmore, the county s health officer, during the monthly Board of Health meeting. I didn t think we d end up where we are.
Through Wednesday, 21,768 Wayne County residents one-third of the county s population are fully vaccinated. Another 1,572 residents have received their first dose of Pfizer or Moderna vaccine, so about 35% of the county s population has received some vaccine.
Even as vaccination eligibility has expanded to age 12, the number of vaccine doses administered to Wayne County residents each week has trended down. In the first three days this week, 235 doses were administered. Jetmore said vaccinations are trickling to an end in the county. ....

Former surrey fire chief Ron Cross honoured at a drive-by parade earlier this month.
It was an emotional scene in Surrey earlier this month, where friends, former colleagues and supporters turned out to honour Ron Cross.
It wasn t a retirement celebration for Cross, the city s former fire chief. That was eight years ago.
Instead, this was a show of support for the ex-chief who is now locked in a battle with ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig s disease.
Fire trucks, police cruisers, ambulances, vintage cars, a decorated minivan, even someone playing bagpipes in the back of a pickup truck turned out. ....
