Ron Craig, the department s Community Policing Officer, Officer of the Month, along with Deputy Royce James of the Volusia County Sheriff s Department in Florida. The award is sponsored by the Police Unity Tour and is given to federal, state and local officers who distinguish themselves through exemplary law enforcement service and devotion to duty.

Following local coverage of Ron Craig and the help he’s provided for area seniors, news outlets and websites in other cities and states have aired stories on his work. And on Feb. 23, a CNN news crew was at the township police station for about 1 ½ hours to interview him. “The producer said they watch local news, looking for positive police stories,” Craig said after the crew had left.

Author: Carla Bayron (WTOL) Updated: 7:50 PM EST February 2, 2021 WOOD COUNTY, Ohio Helping people schedule a COVID-19 vaccine appointment is not normally something law enforcement does, but that s not the case in Lake Township.  Officer Ron Craig, the department s community policing officer, is glad to lend a helping hand. According to Craig, the township s senior residents weren t having much luck booking their appointment. He acknowledged many of them don t have access to computers, an email address, or know how to properly use the internet. About a week and a half ago, he created a spreadsheet and started taking down the residents name, address, date of birth and age. He makes multiple calls and checks websites up to five times a day to schedule their appointment for them.
