Protest Against Police Dogs at Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Office


Echoes of Black lives matter and Justice for Derek reverberated through the streets of downtown Tuscaloosa Friday afternoon. A group of about 20 protestors had gathered at the corner of 7th Street and Greensboro Avenue with the intent to make a statement against the use of police dogs in the city.
Organized by local community activists, the protestors held handmade signs demanding that police dogs should be pets, not weapons. After a quick prayer, using a bullhorn and a chorus of supporters behind her, organizer Deanna Reed marched the group down 7th Street toward the front of the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff s Office. ....

Tuscaloosa County Jail inmates are being vaccinated for COVID-19

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) - Tuscaloosa County Sheriff Ron Abernathy told WBRC several months ago that he wanted to vaccinate jail inmates from coronavirus.
We’ve learned that’s happened at least twice. Abernathy said 74 inmates were vaccinated on Friday.
A smaller group of inmates, around 10, were vaccinated about a month ago.
This started months ago when nearly 200 of about 700 inmates in the Tuscaloosa County jail said they were interested in getting vaccinated, according to the Sheriff.
Both county inmates and those who are state prisoners waiting to be taken to state prisons to serve time are eligible to get vaccinated. ....
