DBusiness Magazine Courtesy of A Place of Refuge. The nonprofit organization A Place of Refuge has been committed to helping southeastern Michigan’s foster care youth transition into adult living. Along with providing shelter to young men and women in Detroit, the group offers mentorship and educational programs designed to teach self-sufficiency, and confidence that lasts through adulthood. The organization was founded in 2009 by Rhonda Roberts-Barley when she realized that the few programs that did exist for kids “aging out” of the foster system were mostly for females. With A Place of Refuge, she wanted to continue to offer those programs, while creating new ones for young men. ....
