MOBILE, Alabama A Bay Minette man was sentenced to life in prison in a Mobile County courtroom Wednesday, June 2 for the 2018 shooting at a Prichard gas station.
Laderrick Hopson, of Bay Minette was convicted Tuesday, April 20 on murder charges in the death 42-year-old Rodney Martin, who was shot six times at the Energize gas station on St. Stephens Road in Prichard s Whistler community on Feb. 8, 2018. Hopson was 24 at the time of the shooting.
In a statement released in April, Mobile County Assistant District Attorney Coy Morgan, the lead prosecutor in the case, called the conviction “a giant leap forward in our community’s recovery from the COVIC-19 pandemic” marking the first time this year that a Mobile County jury has returned a guilty verdict in a murder trial.
