Center Point claws into Sweet 16

CENTER POINT The Center Point boys basketball team grinded out another one on Wednesday night at home.
After pulling off two close calls on their way to a Class 5A, Area 12 tournament championship last week, the seventh-ranked Eagles survived another scare on Wednesday in their playoff opener. Center Point (11-7) had four players score double digit points as the Eagles started fast and ultimately held on for a 60-54 win over Area 9 runner-up Wenonah.
“You have to take games like this,” said Center Point head coach Rodney Chatman following the game. “We had a buzzer-beater (against Cordova) and then we had to come from behind against Hayden and then we had to fight off a pesky Wenonah team, so we’re just going to keep fighting, keep grinding.” ....

Utah’s Office Of Tourism Getting $1 Million In Federal Aid
Utah’s Office of Tourism announced Tuesday it will receive $1 million in federal CARES act money. Tourism has been one of the hardest-hit industries during the pandemic, as fewer people are traveling. The funds will be used on a two-year project that will include a training program, marketing campaign and recovery plan for certain destinations. The state will also contribute $250,000. The tourism office said the grant will help create a little more than 250 high paying or high skill jobs. ....

The first-ever chief safety officer at the University of Utah â hired to reform and rebuild the campus police department â is stepping down now after a year in the post.
Marlon Lynch announced in a letter Tuesday that he has accepted a new job overseeing public safety at Michigan State University, his alma mater. He was named a finalist for that position earlier this month. ....

SALT LAKE CITY Just a year after becoming the University of Utah’s first chief safety officer, Marlon C. Lynch is leaving the U. to take a similar position at his alma mater.
The University of Utah and Lynch announced Tuesday that he will be leaving at the end of March to become the vice president for public safety and chief of police at Michigan State University.
Lynch’s position was created at the University of Utah following the on-campus murder of student Lauren McCluskey as part of a number of public safety reforms. The chief safety officer oversees the U. police department. ....
