The first electric passenger flights between airports and the Netherlands are expected to take place within five years. Eindhoven Airport, Rotterdam The Hague Airport and Groningen Airport Eelde are all collaborating on research into electric flight called
Power Up. The trial is supported by the Royal Schiphol Group and the Royal Netherlands Aerospace Center (NLR). The goal of Power Up is to gain knowledge of the viability, potential and eventual handling of electric flights. KLM has partnered with Shell to produce the sustainable kerosene based on CO2, water and renewable energy from sun and wind from Dutch soil.
KLM has become the first airline in the world to perform a passenger flight using sustainably produced synthetic kerosene. The flight from Amsterdam Airport Schiphol to Madrid, which took place in January, was carried out on an admixture of 500 litres of sustainable synthetic kerosene.
The synthetic kerosene was produced by Shell in its research centre in Amsterdam based on CO2, water and renewable energy from sun and wind from Dutch soil. ....

(KLM) For the first time worldwide, a passenger flight partly flown on sustainably produced synthetic kerosene, was carried out in The Netherlands. This was announced today during the international conference on Synthetic Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF) in The Hague. Shell, producer of the sustainable kerosene and KLM, operating the flight, presented this showcase during the meeting initiated by Cora van Nieuwenhuizen, Dutch Minister for Infrastructure and Water Management. European politicians, policymakers, representatives from the business community, the (aviation) industry and NGOs participated at the conference.
The Netherlands is one of the leading countries in Europe that aim to boost the development and application of sustainable aviation fuels to make aviation more sustainable.
