Mid-Plains Community College Dominates at UNL Rodeo

If there were any spectators who didn’t know about the Mid-Plains Community College Rodeo Team prior to last weekend – they do now.
MPCC blew away the competition Friday and Saturday at the Nebraska Cornhusker College Rodeo hosted by the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
A total of 21 Mid-Plains athletes qualified for the short go.
“It was great to see us, as a team, finally put it all together,” said Aukai Kaai, MPCC Rodeo Team coach. “Headed into the short go, we were set up to have a really good rodeo. One run after another, it just seemed like the team fed off of each other’s good performances. I was pretty proud of what they put together.” ....

MPCC Rodeo Team Off To a Great Start in South Dakota

Zane Patrick, of Bartlett, and Danielle Wray, of Ord, rope during the MPCC Stampede in North Platte last fall. The duo placed second in the team roping at Spearfish, S.D. over the weekend, and Wray also scored the women’s all-around championship.
The Mid-Plains Community College Rodeo Team started out strong in its first competitions of the season – taking home two championships.
The team was up in both rodeos that made up the Black Hills State University Will Lantis Yellow Jacket Stampede in Spearfish, S.D. Thursday through Saturday.

Danielle Wray, of Ord, scored the women’s all-around championship for MPCC in the first rodeo. Wray placed second in the team roping with partner Zane Patrick, of Bartlett. She also split fourth, fifth and sixth alongside teammate Sheyenne Hammond, of Valentine. ....

In March, during the Dodge City Community College Spring Break, two new L-shaped roping boxes were installed at the north end of the DCCC Rodeo Practice Arena, due to the generosity of three local businesses.
“We had heading and heeling boxes put in,” Erica Edmondson, DCCC assistant rodeo coach said.
In rodeo, traditionally, on the left-side of the chute is the head box, and on the right-side is the heel box. Therefore, steer wrestlers and headers use the head side; and calf ropers, breakaway ropers, hazers and heelers use the heel side. ....

Well, it looks like Raider Red has managed to do something that Chris Beard could never accomplish during his time at Texas Tech: win a National Championship.
That s right, the iconic and cherished mascot of our beloved Texas Tech Red Raiders is a champion.
This past weekend in Daytona Beach, Raider Red took home the crown in the mascot division at the National Cheerleaders Association and National Dance Alliance Collegiate Cheer and Dance Championships. Raider Red bested 2nd place finisher, Sammy the Bearkat from Sam Houston State University, with a score of 94.27. ....
