Whitmer Gov. Whitmer Announces Grants for 88 Electric Vehicle Charging Sites to Expand Statewide Network FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
LANSING, Mich. Governor Gretchen Whitmer today announced thirty-two locations across Michigan have been approved as part of the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy s Charge Up grants totaling $1,868,681.13 to install fast charging stations for private and commercial electric vehicles, adding 88 charging outlets along key travel routes throughout the state.
Michigan put the world on wheels and will continue driving the world forward by leading on mobility and electrification, said Governor Gretchen Whitmer. These grants demonstrate our commitment to expanding EV infrastructure across Michigan and build on the extraordinary work and investments of our innovative industry partners and EGLE to help support drivers who make the transition to electric vehicles. ....

May 5, 2021 After a long and valiant struggle, Rolene Berg’s earthly journey ended on April 22, 2021, while holding her daughter’s hand. Born Dec. 5,1941, she was the only surviving child of Jack and Helen Berg. Rolene graduated from Alpena Community College and then Michigan State University. Her first career was as a teacher and then in 1977, she joined New Way In, Inc as the administrator of the women’s reentry program. She assisted many women in their return to society and worked at New Way In until 1989, when she joined the State of Michigan as a Social Worker. In 1984, Rolene’s dream of being a mother was fulfilled when she adopted her daughter Melissa. ....

Governor Garlin Gilchrist joined via Zoom teleconferencing to share his thoughts on the progress made in Rogers City. Gilchrist said Rogers City should be an example to other cities. The way the community comes together to accomplish things is how progress is made, even during the COVID-19 pandemic, Gilchrist said. “I want to thank you for the community connections you have made in Rogers City, Governor Gretchen Whitmer and I know communities are stronger when they are connected,” Gilchrist said. “When we come together, we can do better, and we have seen that obviously in Rogers City, and across the state, over the last 13 months.” ....
