NI farmers team up to launch innovative carbon project Seven farmers from across Northern Ireland have teamed up to secure funding from Europe to investigate practical ways to measure, manage and reduce carbon emissions from ruminant farming. Dubbed ARCZero’ (an acronym for Accelerating Ruminant Carbon to Zero), the group will work alongside AgriSearch, Devenish, Birnie Consultancy and Queen’s University Belfast. The first challenge is to determine how much carbon is held in their soils through soil sampling and analysis. Then, using aerial LiDAR surveying they’ll try to fully understand the amount held in the hedgerows and trees on the farms. ....
A GROUP of Cumbrian sculptors are planning an outdoor sculpture trail following on from the success of their display last year. Cumbrian Sculptors hope to hold the outdoor trail, which will showcase dozens of pieces from talented sculptors from across the county, in the grounds of Rydal Hall beginning from May 1. The event was first held in 2020 at Halecat House in Witherslack, and this year organisers are hoping for even more contributors. Roger Bell from Cumbria Sculptors said: We hope to get fifteen, maybe twenty sculptors submitting two to three pieces each. They will range from ceramics, cast stone, metal and wood. ....
Pathway to net carbon zero A group of seven farmers from across Northern Ireland have started an innovative project, having secured funding through the European Innovation Partnership Scheme, which will investigate practical ways to measure, manage and reduce carbon in ruminant farming. Farrand Orchards and its owners Kerry and Kristin Farrand are alleging breach of contract by Kerikeri Irrigation Company and are claiming costs of $27,209 plus a further $355,048 to compensate for reduced production. ....
