The Wayne County Health Department reported 2 New (PCR and Probable) cases Friday, with no additional deaths. To date Wayne County has reported 1751 Overall Total Covid-19 Cases, and 53 overall Total of Wayne County Covid-19 Related Deaths. Wayne County currently shows 20 residents isolating at home.
At approximately 4:10 p.m. on April 29th, Illinois State Police responded to the scene of a Single Unit ATV Crash with Injury at County Road 2450 N eastbound at County Road 625 E, Burnt Prairie, in White County. Preliminary investigative details indicate 40-year-old Joel R. Rosenbeck of Waverly Hall, GA, was traveling eastbound on County Road 2450 N in rural White County driving a Green 1996 Honda Rancher ATV. Upon approaching the intersection with County Road 625 E, Rosenbeck attempted to make a right-hand turn, overturned and , was thrown from the ATV. The Wayne County Board met last night and heard an update from County Highway Engineer Dennis Seidel about possible safety measures at the intersection of Enterprise Road and Route 161. He said he has met with various entities about possibilities, including implementing a four-way stop, but he doesn’t want to create another problem while attempting to fix another, as sight distance is key in placing stop signs. He anticipates more information in the next week. At the conclusion of the meeting, Royce Carter announced he would resign from the board, effective immediately, as he has moved out of the area. The City of Fairfield and Wayne-White Electric Cooperative have reached an agreement on an Electric Operations and Maintenance Contract. The two entities say, beginning January 1, 2022, the co-op will provide all new construction, system improvements, and maintenance on the City’s electric system, and it will also send and collect the electric bill. The agreement is dependent upon Hoosier Energy purchasing the 138 KV and 69 KV transmission systems, and the City Council intends to discuss and vote on the contract at its meeting this coming Tuesday.
35-year-old Fairfield resident Jeremy M.T. Ralston was sentenced yesterday in Wayne County Circuit Court. He pleaded guilty last March to a Class 2 felony count of delivery of less than five grams of meth, and he was sentenced to two years probation, plus time served. Several other cases against him were dismissed per his plea, and Ralston was ordered to pay $4,911 in fines and court costs, including $1,000 in restitution to Gerald ....

Here we are in the midst of winter with sickness and death all around us, and even though the Super Bowl game should temporarily alleviate some of the forces of darkness that makes one wonder if society will ever get back to normal, I just can’t ignore the losses of so many friends and acquaintances since COVID-19 veered into all of our lives, affecting everyone in one way or another.
From Lucky Jones to Tom Gagnon to Bob Weisner to attorney Joe Wagner’s more recent death, I have lost many friends, although not all as a result of COVID. However, the recent death of two former neighbors — Betty and Arnold Browning — has just about pushed me over the edge. You just could not find two better people anywhere. ....
