Most of the freshman class will fill House seats vacated by members who hit their six-year term limit serving in the state House, although some defeated incumbents or are replacing members who sought other offices last fall. Speaker-elect Jason Wentworth, R-Clare, and Democratic Leader-elect Donna Lasinski, D-Scio Township, will fill the leadership slots left open by the departures of former Reps. Lee Chatfield and Christine Greig.

No injuries in morning fire in Rochester Hills

A family escaped their home after a kitchen fire started Thursday morning, and firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze. The Rochester Hills Fire Department was summoned just before 7:30 a.m. Dec. 17 with the report of a house fire. Firefighters arrived to find light smoke coming from the door, Public Information Officers John Lyman said in a statement. - Advertisement - They found the fire in the kitchen — on the stove and burning into the kitchen hood vent. Already, the family, including two children, were outside of the home, uninjured. Firefighters confined the blaze to the kitchen area. The fire was determined to be accidental, starting during cooking, Fire Marshal and Assistant Chief Bill Cooke said in a statement.

Rochester Hills ranks fourth in the country for 2020 census self-response

Shutterstock image Advertisement ROCHESTER HILLS The city of Rochester Hills finished fourth in the nation for 2020 census response for cities with a population over 75,000. “The census is important because it really determines the amount of funding we get for the next 10 years,” Rochester Hills Mayor Bryan Barnett said. The city hasn’t always going back to the year 2000 done exceptionally well, Barnett said. “In 2010, we put a great plan together, and in 2020, we wanted to even improve on that plan to get as many of our people counted and as much of the resources back in our community as we possibly could,” Barnett said.
