Governor-General Honours Down Syndrome Trailblazers

Jacob Dombroski, Rochelle Waters
and Amelia Eades were bestowed with a National Achievement
Award by Governor General Rt Hon Dame Patsy Reddy.
The
Governor-General, who is the patron of the New Zealand Down
Syndrome Association (NZDSA), also handed out the Val
Sturgess Volunteer of the Year Award to Kathryn Sadgrove
from Northland.
The awards had to be postponed in 2020
due to the Covid 19 lockdown, so the selection panel had a
difficult task picking winners from a large group of
well-deserving and high-calibre nominations across two
years.

says that Amelia, Jacob and Rochelle are incredibly

Four members of the New Zealand Down syndrome community have been honoured for their amazing individual achievements at special function at Government House today.
Jacob Dombroski, Rochelle Waters and Amelia Eades were bestowed with a National Achievement Award by Governor General Rt Hon Dame Patsy Reddy.

Members of Down Syndrome community receive National Achievement Awards at Wellington's Government House

Dombroski said he was really proud to receive the award.
“I’m really pumped right now. I want to represent myself, my people and my loved ones,” the 29-year-old Wellington local said.

The New Zealand Down Syndrome Association s national executive officer, Zandra Vaccarino, with award winner Jacob Dombrowski and Governor-General Dame Patsy Reddy.
Along with Dombroski, Rochelle Waters and Amelia Eades also received National Achievement Awards for their individual successes.
Waters was a committee member of the Canterbury Down Syndrome Association, as well as a competitive swimmer and an instructor for dance group Jolt Dance. She also works at Darfield Bakery. ....
