Airline Scams Have Survived the Pandemic - Here's How You Can Survive Them

As we near the end of the pandemic-related travel restrictions and airline bookings rise, so too have travel booking scams been on the rise.
The Better Business Bureau (BBB) has released that they have been receiving reports of scams on their scam tracker, of scammers using fake booking sites and fake customer service numbers to deceive unwitting consumers.
President and CEO of the BBB for Vancouver Island, Rosalind Scott says that travel and vacation scams were the riskiest across Canada, with the median dollar loss for those scammed being five-thousand dollars per victim, before the pandemic.
“Scammers will not hesitate to resume these successful cash-grabbing cons, especially since they know people are eager to travel again,” Scott says. “Consumers need to carefully review the booking websites they visit and the numbers they call before sharing personal and credit card information.” ....

BBB hands out refurbished computers to needy organizations

Old and unwanted electronic devices were collected from around the region during the shredding and recycling event.
The items were assessed, cleaned, and refurbished by the recycling association and then handed out to the Harbour of Hope Refugee Assistance Society, Victoria Women in Need Co-operative, Greater Victoria Coalition to End Homelessness and the Bateman Foundation.
“At Harbour of Hope, we have two high school student refugees that will be receiving a laptop each to help them in their studies,” said society president Noelle Mason.
The Greater Victoria Coalition to End Homelessness will use the donation to help those in need with resume building and improving computer skills. ....

The Better Business Bureau (BBB) for Vancouver Island is preaching caution when it comes to getting rid of your unwanted electronics.
President and CEO Rosalind Scott says, keeping unwanted electronics in your home increases the risk of loss or theft – which can lead to data fraud.
“We often have a lot of sensitive information stored on our computers and mobile devices such as personal details, banking information, account information, and passwords,” says Scott. “This information is easily recoverable by tech savvy scammers once they’re in possession of your old devices.” ....
