In its proposed 10-Year Plan, the council says it wants more events held from April to September and wants to collaborate with event organisers to achieve this. The city has an extensive and diverse events programme but many events are centralised over the warmer months. ....

Palmerston North property prices show no sign of slowing

In February 2017 the median price was $340,000, and it was $380,000 in February 2018, but houses in that price range have all but vanished.
Just four sales were for under $400,000 in February, while six were in the $1 million-plus category.
The institute’s Manawatū spokesman, Andy Stewart, from the Professionals, said first-home buyers were looking at properties selling in the $500,000-$700,000 range.
Meanwhile, homes previously in the $800,000 range were fetching $1m.
“It’s a concern. As prices raise, if they keep going the way they’re going, it’s going to price-out a lot of first-home buyers. That’s pretty scary.”
Stewart said it was becoming more common for parents with equity in their homes to use that to help their children get a foot on the property ladder. ....

Palmerston North dance teacher takes final curtsey after 58 years

Ax said she owed her long career to a love of dance.
“I think if you asked any of my students what they thought about Mrs Ax, they would say I was very technical.”
She said you can t do anything without turnout and technique, and that required dedication and commitment.
Lots of children came in with natural talent, but it was most satisfying when you helped a child work hard and strive for improvement with practice.
