The City of Lafayette Aquatics (COLA) hosted a Water Safety Awareness Day today at the Robicheaux Center Pool.
The event included free swimming lessons, food and a movie. You could also drive through, and get treats, goodies and water safety information.
It was a fun event, but with a serious purpose.

COVID-19 in LA: Vaccinations plummet as cases, hospitalizations plateau

Vaccinations for COVID-19 plummeted in Acadiana and across the state this week while new cases and hospitalizations for the virus locally held steady after increasing last week.
Acadiana’s new COVID-19 vaccinations dropped 44% this week from last week as just 3,512 new shots were given to residents since last Friday.
Acadiana is clinging to one of the lowest regional vaccination rates in the state at 26.1% of the region’s 658,000 residents starting a vaccine, ahead of only the Cenla and Lake Charles areas. As of Thursday, 21.7% of Acadiana residents were fully vaccinated.
Weekly vaccinations in Acadiana are now down 70% from just two weeks ago, while vaccinations statewide have dropped 75% in just the past month. ....

The Lafayette City-Parish Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness held a public meeting Wednesday night to gather public input on upcoming changes to the parish s Hazardous Mitigation Plan.
The plan, which identifies hazards and problem areas in the parish, like flooding or hurricanes, is updated every five years and includes all municipalities. In an effort to better understand the community s vulnerabilities, the public is invited to share their input on what the plan should include. ....

LAFAYETTE, La. â Several roads are closed due to heavy rains that swept across Lafayette Parish on Tuesday, including parts of Gallet Road, Mills Street and Prejean Road.
According to the Lafayette Consolidated Government and the Lafayette Parish Sheriff s Office, the 2800 block of Mills Street is closed due to high water.
They are also reporting that the 300 - 500 blocks of Prejean Road has also been closed due to high water.
The 600 block of Gallet Road has been closed due to high waters.
LCG also has several sandbag locations open across the parish: ....
