Lincoln: Bicentennial celebrations abound in Conquest

Joni Lincoln Special to The Citizen Bicentennial celebrations! Yes, they are happening. Maybe not the way we first envisioned, but happening nevertheless! The Conquest Fire Department barbecue was a huge success — smooth, efficient, and everyone got their orders! The craft fair at the Conquest Fire Hall had a small crowd for our first one, but it was successful in that we shared diverse talents and even sold many items! The upcoming Countryside United Methodist Church roast beef supper has had outstanding interest and help from all corners! The Memorial Day ceremony at the Springlake cemetery had the largest turnout in many years. We continue to be grateful for the Cato American Legion, who help us bring honor to our veterans. As the flags flew over the gravestones, we celebrated the lives of those who served in the Civil War, World War I, World War II, Korea, Vietnam and the many peacekeeping operations throughout our history. Stacy Lightfoot Named UTC Vice Chancellor For Diversity And Engagement Monday, May 3, 2021 Stacy Goodwin Lightfoot, an experienced professional with a history of working in education reform, has been appointed the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga’s first vice chancellor for diversity and engagement. She will join UTC effective July 1. Ms. Lightfoot comes to UTC after spending the last 12 years with the Public Education Foundation (PEF), most recently as the organization’s executive vice president. “Stacy Lightfoot rose to the top of a strong, competitive candidate pool in a national search and is the right choice for this cabinet-level position,” UTC Chancellor Steven Angle said.

Urban League Of Greater Chattanooga Celebrates MLK Day With Virtual Youth Empowerment Event And Day Of Service Thursday, January 14, 2021 The Urban League of Greater Chattanooga is marking the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. through a series of community outreach events planned for Monday.    Urban League Young Professionals, a volunteer branch of the Urban League, is co-hosting the 2021 MLK Day Youth Empowerment Experience: The Past, Present & Future for Economic Justice. This youth-focused webinar will feature a multi-generational group of community leaders, panelists and influencers connecting the past, present and future of Dr. King’s fight for social and economic justice. The event will also address topics such as wealth building, criminal justice and using the power of social media for influence. Participants will be entertained through live music and trivia and have a chance to win one of 20 savings accounts of $100.
