April 27, 2021 Declaring a fear that she might not get “a fair test” for coronavirus, a member of World Harvest Ministries International, the St Peter church at the centre of the latest COVID-19 outbreak, was this evening involved in a standoff with public health and law enforcement officials. But, around 9:30 p.m. five hours after health authorities arrived on the scene at her Christ Church home, police officers removed the woman and other family members. It was not immediately clear if or where the woman and her family were taken into quarantine as officials were tight-lipped as the drama ended. Moments earlier, the woman who lives with her husband, son and mentally challenged mother, telephoned ....
COVID Monitoring Unit Chief Aims to Preserve Lives Article by April 21, 2021 Ronald Chapman is not the “mini COVID-19 czar”; and he certainly is not the “national killjoy” out to spoil the fun of Barbadians who want to return to a life of simple pleasures and enjoyment. The director of the Government’s COVID-19 Monitoring Unit has become the man some Bajans love to hate because he and his team have had the unenviable task of shutting down house parties, fetes, bars, entertainment events, and even shops and retail outlets. This is the view of former president of the Police Officers Association and former first vice president of the Congress of Trade Unions and Staff Associations of Barbados Hartley Reid who declared that Mottley was “totally out of line” as she directly interfered in an ongoing investigation. He also dismissed as a “red herring”, Mottley’s suggestions that the controversial matter has been blown out of proportion because of the area in which it unfolded. ....
ERT asked to intervene in dispute Article by April 7, 2021 Head of Government’s COVID-19 Monitoring Unit Ronald Chapman has been placed before the Employment Rights Tribunal (ERT) for unfair dismissal. However, the claim against Chapman by a former employee, is associated with his role as Managing Director of Argon Pest Control Incorporated, a private company located at Risk Road, Fitts Village, St James. In a letter from the Labour Department dated February 9, 2021 and addressed to the Chairman of the Tribunal, Laurison Mayers, writing on behalf of the Acting Chief Labour Officer, the ERT was informed that on July 24, 2017, Shibbir Greenidge made a complaint to the department via his attorney Khamaal Collymore, that he was unfairly terminated on May 12, 2017. ....
