The Amherst Farmers’ Markett commenced its 50th season last week and will run Saturdays from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. through Nov. 20. Market manager David Machowski said the market will be held every week, rain or shine, and though it is more work to set up on the common than in its previous space, the common gives the market a more agrarian feel. ....

The market, which again will be on the Town Common instead of in the Spring Street parking lot, runs from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Saturdays each week through Nov. 20. Though COVID-19 protocols are still in place, with masks required and social distancing used to keep people safe, the market is able to start on time this year, unlike last year when it was delayed until after Memorial Day. ....

Grow Food Northampton took over running the winter farmers market this year because the usual organizers weren’t able to run it during the pandemic, said Niki Lankowski, Grow Food Northampton market manager and communications manger. “We thought it would be important to have at least one local market per month,” Lankowski said. A major part of that, Lankowski said, is providing a place for people to use Healthy Incentives Program (HIP) benefits which gives those who receive Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits additional money to buy products directly from farmers. ....
